The hedgehog 
in a trenchcoat 
Returns 

He stands
In the shadows 
Beneath the ferns 

He scribbles 
in a notepad
The thing that he learns 

Before his beedy Little eyes 
his cigarette burns 

He can't crack the case
He can't crack the code

This crossword and riddle
Of crossing the road

He's surveyed for days
But he can't understand them 

That's no patteren or meaning
These cars are seemingly random

He makes note of direction
Size, colour and speed

But this case is Proving 
difficult indeed

The trenchcoat crusader 
This mysterious stranger 

Will not rest while 
Wildlife's in danger 

Now and then
his phone would chime 

His wife would call 
telling him he's wasting his time

and that she's been doing 
research online 

She bought a high vis jacket 
And a round stop sign 

Now he's a lolly pop hedgehog 
Having the time of his life 

He loves his new jacket 
And so does his wife 

It's been a critical development 
In his road safety mission 

And in addition, it arouses 
Much less suspicion
